Spring Cleaning for Your Business

Maybe it’s the extra hour of daylight or the new blooms on our daily walk, but spring always feels like an opportunity to refresh your surroundings and shake the dust off 🌷. The same can be true for your business! Our latest blog post shares some of our thoughts on spring cleaning for your small business.

Gather Your Supplies

Instead of a broom or duster, think of the types of business data that you can pull from Q1. This might include things like your bookkeeping reports, social media account analytics, client/project roster, sales records, or calendar from the last three months. Now is a great time to take stock of how your year has gone so far, and how closely it has aligned to your ideal way of doing business.

Get to Work

Take all of that information and start to look for trends. Here are some questions that you can reflect on while going through your business materials:

  • Where am I spending the most time in my business right now? Is it where I want to be putting in hours or are there pieces I could delegate or outsource?

  • What services or products are the most popular so far this year? Which are the most profitable?

  • What kind of feedback have I gotten back from clients? Are there places in the process where people seem to have a lot of questions or get stuck?

  • How does my work/life balance feel in this season? Do I need to push the gas on marketing efforts to drum up some new clients? Should I think about carving out more down time or raising my prices a bit?

  • Am I on track to hit my annual business goals so far? If not, what might need to be adjusted to help me get there?

Plant Some Seeds

Okay, so you have some ideas about what’s going well and what needs tweaking. What seeds can you plant now that will help you later in the year? What resources do you need to become more efficient or improve the client experience or product quality? Does your daily work routine need any adjustments? Is it time to plan some vacation time for the summer and make sure everything is covered so you can enjoy a break? Are there any big purchases like training, coaching, equipment, or new hires that you can start budgeting for?

Try grabbing some blank copy paper or a notebook and journaling out some thoughts around these questions. See what comes up and where small adjustments could be made to improve your business in terms of marketing, profitability, processes, client communication, and energy management (aka avoiding burnout).

Enjoy Some Nature Time

Last but not least, it’s time to recharge! We all know that getting outside is good for our mental health, but most of us don’t make it a priority. Take advantage of the nice weather and take a walk, break out the grill, or enjoy a nice bevvie on the back porch 🍹. Put it on your calendar as a 15 minute appointment if you have to. We promise you’ll feel better after a hit of vitamin D and some time spent watching all of the new growth around you.

Happy spring cleaning!
